Madison's smoking ban goes into effect Friday, and as a performer and fan of live music I couldn't be more thrilled. My only concern is that once all the bars are smoke-free, we'll find out what they really smell like.

It is hotter than hell out there, and while at lunch just now I saw many people smoking outside. I'm an ex-smoker, and I flashed back to hot, muggy days like this one when smoking seemed like the most unpleasant thing I could imagine doing. But I did it anyway.
